One of the knocks against the Kia Soul is its lack of all-wheel drive. Now, Kia is introducing a concept that not only addresses that concern from critics, but boosts performance of the diminutive crossover as well.

Unlike the production Soul, the Track’ster is a two door bodystyle, with the two-tone Whiteout/Inferno Orange paint treatment hinting at the performance potential. Other changes include a wheelbase stretched by almost an inch and a track width that is some five inches wider. They combine with the lowered suspension for a solid stable stance under high-speed cornering.

The other big change is under the hood, where the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is fitted with a turbocharger for outputs of 250 horsepower (an increase of 53% from the production Soul’s 2.0L “four”). It’s controlled by a short-throw six-speed manual.

Other unique features are custom HRE-K1 performance wheels shod with high performance Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 245/40R19 tires up front and 285/35R19s in rear. Underneath them, large 14-inch Brembo vented and cross-drilled brakes are pinched by six piston callipers (13.6 inchers and four-piston pinchers in rear).

Inside, there are Inferno Orange suede covered racing seats, surrounded by granite grey leather trim (suede on the steering wheel and door panels). A touchscreen offers control over navigation, entertainment and heating/ventilation. The Soul’s rear seats have been removed in favour of an equipment tray featuring large panelled storage bins for racing gear (helmet, gloves, suit), tools and emergency supplies (in an highly-visible Inferno Orange container).

There are no plans to create a production Track’ster, but Kia is reportedly open to the idea pending public approval.
