Faulty rear door struts result in injuries

Honda is recalling some 46,000 Odyssey minivans, including 2,800 in Canada over concerns the power operated rear lift doors could come down unexpectedly.

Affecting minivans from the 2008 and 2009 model years, the problem seems to centre on the gas-filled struts that open the door and prop it up. They may be leaking some of their gas, causing a loss of pressure and an inability for them to keep the door up, causing it to come down and potentially striking a person standing underneath. There have been two reported incidents of the occurrence.

Honda says it will start sending out notices to owners in mid-March, requesting they attend a local Honda dealer to have the problem inspected and the struts replaced, if needed.

A total of 45,747 vans are affected, with 2,790 in Canada. All affected vehicles were built in Lincoln, Alabama.
