GM's new Ecologic labelIllustrates a vehicle’s impact beyond the road

General Motors is expanding beyond basic window stickers that show fuel economy numbers by adding an industry-first label to vehicles that will include additional environmental information related to manufacturing, driving and recyling.

The labels themselves will focus on three key areas. They are:

Before the road: Environmental aspects related to vehicle manufacturing and assembly.

On the road: Fuel-saving features such as advanced engine technologies, aerodynamics, lighter weight components or low-rolling resistance tires.

After the road: How 85 percent by weight of the vehicle can be recycled at the end of its lifespan.

The Ecologic labels will first be used on the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic in the United States, and will be added to 2013 Chevrolet vehicles later in the year.

The information on the labels will be created by GM, but will be audited by an independent third-party agency called Two Tomorrows, which provides sustainability advice and support to businesses. A special logo will appear on the Ecologic label to show it was reviewed and that its information was determined to be accurate.

“Customers want companies to be honest and transparent about their environmental efforts and sustainability goals, and rightly so,” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. “Putting an Ecologic label on each Chevrolet is just one more way for us to share our environmental progress.”

Putting a green coloured sticker on a car does not make it enviormentally friendly. It is like light cigerettes.
Cars are not friendly, the products they are made with are not freindly. Stop trying to dress them up as being a lighter shade of bad.
