Jeep Grand Cherokee conceptContest to choose limited-edition model’s name

Jeep has introduced a new “production-intent” Grand Cherokee concept at the 2012 Houston Auto Show, and the automaker is leaving the naming of the vehicle up to consumers.

The aggressive-looking new Grand Cherokee uses the Laredo X package (available in the U.S.) as a starting-off point, and adds features such as a black grille surround, mesh grille texture in chrome, black headlamp bezels and black liftgate light-bar.

The concept rides on 20-inch tires and black-gloss aluminum wheels. Inside, it features leather-trimmed seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, heated front seats, nine-speaker sound system with subwoofer, rear back-up camera, and UConnect.

The model on display in Houston is presented in “Brilliant Black”, while a similar model that’s set to appear at the Washington, D.C. Auto Show will have a “Deep Cherry Red” exterior.

The latest Jeep could appear in showrooms sooner rather than later, depending on consumer reaction at the two auto shows the vehicle will appear.

“We plan to garner feedback from consumers at the Houston Auto Show, and via our online Jeep ‘Name My Ride’ contest,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “If the level of excitement is what we anticipate, this new Grand Cherokee will be in Jeep showrooms this spring.”

The ‘Name My Ride’ contest has people visiting a website that allows them to enter their name for the Grand Cherokee concept. The Jeep brand will narrow the list down to three entrants, and consumers will then vote on their favourite in order to choose the winner.
