2010 BMW Concept Active E
BMW has electric show
BMW declared itself "cautiously optimistic" stating that despite last year's dour economic climate, December sales had climbed back up -- even bettering those posted in 08.
As if to emphasize their optimism, the presentation began with a cherry red BMW Z4. Output has been increased to 335 hp - yet its fuel ratings and emissions are comparable to the previous model's.
Hot on the heels of the 5 series Gran Turismo, is the new 535i.
And for the 7 series - there are two new models coming in the second quarter of 2010: An all wheel drive version, and a new Active Hybrid 7.
Making its debut, the Concept Active E boasts a 170 hp electric motor with a torque output of up to 250 newton metres. Powered by a lithium battery that's liquid cooled for longevity, the Concept E has a projected range of 100 miles. It will showcase a new "connected drive" system allowing the driver to check battery life and locate charging stations by cell phone. Representing the next step in urban mobility, but with a sport car mentality, the Concept Active E, which looks exactly like an i series, will go into production in 2011.
