BMW showed off the full integration functions of the new Apple iPhone in several of its models at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany this week.

BMW was the first automaker to introduce compatibility with the iPod into its cars upon its release, and is now doing the same with the iPhone. The technology is now available in the 6-Series, 5-Series, 3-Series, 1-Series and X5, as well as all MINI Cooper models in the U.S. and will be available in the same models once the iPhone launches in Europe, which is expected at the end of 2007.

Up until now, iPod and telephone functions have been used separately in BMWs. Now, with the new smart phone technology, iPhone users will be able to combine both platforms for more convenience.

The technology works seamlessly: if the driver is listening to music on his or her iPhone and a call comes in, the music pauses and the speakers and microphone of the phone activate automatically. Once the driver finishes the conversation, the system automatically switches back to playing music.

There will also be a special snap-in adapter developed specifically for the iPhone will be available in BMW and MINI models in 2008, allowing your iPhone to be secured.
