Porsche's instant Classic

Exactly 250 Porsche 911 fans will have a chance to own a new ultra-exclusive production model of the German automaker's world-renowned sports car.

The 2010 911 Sport Classic is what Porsche says is a 'return to the tradition of occasionally issuing ultra-exclusive production cars'. The vehicle comes courtesy of Porsche Exclusive, which is the automaker's department that specializes in making these kind of rare vehicles.

The vehicle, which was developed over three years, is based on the rear-wheel drive Carrera S, but has the wider rear body of the all-wheel drive Carrera 4S. A new front apron with unique spoiler lip and newly-developed double-dome roof make unique from others in the 911 lineup. A fixed ducktail rear spoiler serves as a visual reference to the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7.

The Sport Classic uses the 3.8-litre flat-six engine found in the Carrera S, though it is enhanced with a newly-developed resonance intake manifold with six acuum-controlled switching flaps. Power is increased to 408-horsepower (up from 285-horsepower in the Carrera S), and Porsche says the Sport Classic will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Standard features include Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, sports suspension, mechanical locking rear axle, and custom-made 19-inch wheels with five-spoke centers painted black.

The interior includes 'new materials never used before, even by Porsche', with woven leather on the adaptive sports seats. The dashboard includes a range of inserts and custom trim components, and is finished in 'Espresso Nature' leather.

Sales of the 911 Sport Classic start in January 2010, and the vehicle will cost Euro 169,300. It will not be available in Canada due to the design of the roof and the country's rollover requirements.
