Bigger than ever, the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe is leading the pack of redesigned full-size GM sport utility vehicles. Despite rising gas prices, GM is going all out to show off their large trucks, while still touting their improved fuel economy.

The 2007 Tahoe is built on GM's new full-size SUV platform. It features a new fully-boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and an all-new, premium interior system that bolster the vehicle's comfort, quality and capability. The vehicles also feature wider front and rear tracks, which help with handling due to a lower centre of gravity.

The cabin is quieter than the outgoing model thanks to a stiffer frame, which reduces vibrations. Even the standard 17-inch and optional 20-inch wheels were designed to reduce noise. Noise-reducing materials were used in the headliner material, door seals and front-of-dash area. The engine has a quiet-tuned alternator and a special engine cover that, according to GM, will dramatically reduce engine noise heard within the vehicle. The Tahoe's new aerodynamic shape and streamlined windows, mirrors and roof racks also reduce wind noise and high speeds.

Underneath the hood, a new generation of small-block V8s are available, with displacement-on-demand for improved fuel economy. Standard at the beginning of production will be a 5.3-litre Vortec V8 which produces 320 horsepower and 335 lbs.-ft. of torque. Later on, a 4.8-litre Vortec V8 will be standard on the 2WD models. The Tahoe 4WD models will have a 7,700-lb. towing capacity.

The 2007 Tahoe will be available in three trim levels - the LS, LT and LTZ. The LT will also have three equipment groups available (LT-1, LT-2 and LT-3) to due it being the highest volume model.

The Tahoe's exterior also features Chevrolet's new front end, with the gold bow-tie placed upon a twin-port horizontal grille. Foglamps and headlamps have jewel-like optics and the lower fascia incorporates the license plate and integrated tow hooks and includes a skid plate for a more aggressive, offroad look.

Despite an aggressive look, GM wanted the exterior to also have a sporty and refined demeanour. They did this by incorporating a fast-rake windshield, bulging hood, a prominent new fender with integrated wheel flares and a full wrap fascia.

The Z71 package will be available later in 2006 and will give the Tahoe a more aggressive look, with a three piece fascia featuring a platinum chrome skid plate, larger tow hook openings, larger fog lamps, platinum chrome grille trim and 18-inch wheels.

New and revised features available on all models include a power release fold-and-tumble second-row seat, remote vehicle starting system, touch-screen navigation system, rear-seat DVD entertainment system and first and second row heated seats.

There are many standard safety features. These include roof-mounted head curtain side air bags with rollover protection for all three rows of seating, electronic stability control, dual-stage front air bags, tire pressure monitoring system and OnStar.

Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist is standard on LT-2, LT-3 and LTZ models and available on LS and LT-1. The rearview camera system is available on LT-2, LT-3 and LTZ models (requires navigation radio).

The 2007 Tahoe will be built at the Arlington Assembly plant in Arlington Texas.
