Performance coupe market gets a little Smart

In Canadian showrooms as of February 2009, the Brabus edition builds on the Smart Fortwo’s hallmark for fuel efficiency, fun and functionality with a sportier, performance oriented package.

The Fortwo’s body has been lowered by 10 mm and it rides on unique alloy wheels (15-inch diameter up front, 17s in the rear). Lowered bodysides all around add a degree of functionality (the front skirt reduces front axle lift) to the visual attractiveness. The Brabus edition will be available on both the Fortwo coupe (with panoramic roof) and cabriolet (with fully automatic top). Available in either silver or black, they will be priced from $21,900 (coupe) and $24,900 (convertible).

In addition to standards on the regular Fortwo models, the Brabus interior features the badging, brushed aluminum pedals, heated leather seats and the additional dash-top gauges (optional on regular Fortwos).

Power comes from the same rear-mounted 70-hp three-cylinder gasoline engine, using the same five-speed automated manual transmission to distribute power to the rear wheels.
