It's no surprise that Scion's latest concept vehicle, the Hako, is very youth-oriented, similar to other models in its lineup. What sets the Hako apart from other Scions is that it melds Japanese and American youth cultures, as it's inspired by the emergence of American vintage style among young Tokyo trendsetters.

The Hako was developed by Tokyo Design Division, and according to Scion Vice President Jack Hollis, "this type of forward thinking complements the Scion philosophy of intently listening to our customers and being willing to take risks to help us see where our brand should be. We took the xB's iconic boxy shape and explored something more vivacious, yet just as emotionally appealing."

It may not seem immediately apparent, but the Hako designers had American coupes in mind when making the concept. It has a powerful stance put together in a compact design, with a rectangular upper and lower grille and round fog lights - complete with integrated turn signals - placed high on the front bumper.

From the side, the Hako is accentuated by race car-inspired mirrors with integrated turn signals, powerful flared fenders, 18-inch wheels and a high beltline. From the back, the LED taillights mimic the shape of the front light. In addition, the rear bumper has an integrated backup and fog light on the left, and an exhaust on the right.

The Hako's interior is accented with orange and metallic detailing. The front bucket seats flow incorporate a geometric design on the seatback, and are separated from one another by a centre console that features a large storage crevice for storing magazines, cell phones, and other small items. The rear seats feature the same shape and storage crevice as the front.

The entertainment system consists of two video monitor screens mounted on the dash for radio, video, and music capabilities. The front passenger controls the system using a large rollerball mounted on the center of the dash. There are even orange-filtered cameras mounted beneath the A-pillars that can record video. When the car is in park, occupants can then edit scenes captured by the camera and send them to friends or post the clip online.
