Porsche begins a new chapter in the company's history at the NYIAS. Driven by its “Porsche Intelligent Performance” philosophy, we'll see the hybridization of more models, and better efficiency.

The Cayenne has shed some 181 kilos over the previous gen, and it's now also two inches longer.

Both the exterior and interior have been thoroughly redesigned, the latter space now clearly influenced by the Porsche Panamera, to be more driver-centric and sporty.

July will see the release of the 400-hp Cayenne S V8 and the $124,000 500-hp Turbo model, which can sprint to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds with its eight-speed Tiptronic tranny. .

The new Cayenne V6 300 hp arrives in September for $58,200.

Due in October, the 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid (a full - notmild - hybrid) can operate under electric power up to a speed of 35 mph, and then “sail” on the highway up to 97 mph. Net power is 380 hp and pricing starts at $80,800.

The new Cayenne S is 20 percent more efficient than outgoing model while the Hybrid is 20 percent better than that.

The 918 Spyder hybrid (shown in Geneva recently) still has not gotten the green light, but there's no reason to doubt it won't go ahead. It is a hybrid after all.
