Subaru will be introducing an all-new 7-seat utility vehicle called B9X at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2005, but released some preliminary info at the 2004 South Florida International Auto Show in November 2004.

Canadians will get their first look at Subaru's new crossover utility vehicle at the Salon International de l'auto de Montreal January 14-23, 2005.

As with all Subaru's, B9X will be fitted with the legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, but features an all-new design theme, delivering added style to Subaru's capability, safety and durability.

"This vehicle represents more than just a new style of Subaru," said Subaru Canada CEO Norio Osakabe. "It's also a Subaru that will appeal to a larger audience with a higher degree of feature content and refinement, along with a level of driving performance and interior flexibility."

Larger than Outback with a larger cargo capacity, B9X features a bold new grille and fascia design. A central air intake is flanked by two "wings" that relate directly to the history of Subaru as an aircraft manufacturer. The curved roofline expresses a sense of motion, while wheel arches convey muscularity and power.

The Subaru B9X design theme first appeared at the 2003 Geneva Show Car on the Subaru B11S, and was further refined on the Subaru B9SC (shown at the 2004 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto) and R1e concept.

Slated for the 2006 model year, the Subaru B9X will be built at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant in Lafayette, Indiana.
