Hyundai is redoing its XG350 flagship sedan, and going away from the alpha-numeric nomenclature. The new 4-door will now be called Azera.

The Azera is derived from Hyundai's slogan 'the era of A to Z' and also alludes to the french word azure - in french, it's the colour of blue skies, an optimistic color that reflects Hyundai's focus on the future. Robert F. Cosmai, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America has high hopes for the Azera: "Azera will earn distinction for segment-leading standard safety features, refined styling, and content that is generally reserved for higher-priced luxury sedans."

The Azera houses an all-new, all-aluminum 3.8-litre V6 engine that delivers an estimated 265-horsepower. It's rated as an ultra-low emissions vehicle (ULEV) and is teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic manual control.

Inside, the Azera features several high-quality upgrades. This includes dual-zone climate control, an electronic tilt/telescopic steering wheel, integrated memory system for the driver's seat, outside mirrors, steering column and foot pedals, a power rear sunshade, rain-sensing windshield wipers and leather seats.

The interior look is finished off with woodgrain trim and metal accent pieces.

Also available is an Infinity audio system which features 10 speakers, a subwoofer, speed-sensitive volume, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer.

When comparing the new sedan to the Hyundai XG350, the Azera is longer, wider and has a longer wheelbase. It has more interior room than the Mercedes Benz S-Class and BMW 760i, according to Hyundai.

Safety features are numerous, including electronic stability control with traction control, electronic brake distribution and eight airbags - dual front, front and rear side-mounted and roof-mounted side airbags for front and rear outward seat occupants.
