Mitsubishi's new pickup truck, dubbed the 'Raider,' features a 4.7-litre V-8, which is the only midsize import pickup that offers an engine that big.

The Raider is also available with a V6 and there is plenty of other choice in the form of two- or four-wheel drive and extended and double cab versions.

Designed at the Mitsubishi Motors Design Center in Cypress, California, the Raider features a distinctive hood, flared wheel arches and a thin upper grille with thick lower bumper to give it a muscular look, similar to other Mitsubishi vehicles such as the Endeavor SUV. The truck bed features more than 40 cubic feet of hauling capacity.

The V8 engine produces 230-horsepower and 290 lbs.-ft. of torque while the V6 version makes 210-horsepower and 235 lbs.-ft. of torque.

The Raider offers several premium amenities, including leather seating, bluetooth wireless technology, a premium sound system with 6-disc CD changer and it's the first Mitsubishi vehicle to offer Sirius satellite radio.

Three trim levels are available on the Raider - the LS, DuroCross, and XLS. The LS comes only with the V6 engine, in extended and double cab versions. The DuroCross has the most flexibility, coming available in extended or double cab, and each iteration is available with either of the two engines. The top-of-the-line XLS comes as double cab only with a V8 engine.

Standard features found on the LS include air conditioning, tinted glass, CD player with four speakers, antilock brakes and variable intermittent wipers. The DuroCross comes standard with leather-trimmed steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels and the 4X4 version adds high-pressure gas shocks and limited slip differential.

The XLS comes standard with a five-speed automatic transmission, auto-dimming rear view mirror, heated leather seats and power heated mirrors. A safety package is available which adds side and head curtain airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes and immobilizer.
