The third generation Lexus GS will come in a hybrid version in 2007 and will be named the GS 450h. Lexus is touting it as the world's first gasoline/electric hybrid luxury sedan and the first full hybrid vehicle with a front engine and rear-wheel drive.

The GS 450h is distinguished by Lexus' new design style known as L-Finesse. It will include a longer wheelbase (2,850 mm.) and more interior room and is classified as a Super Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV).

A new hybrid powertrain moves the GS 450h. It combines a 3.5-litre V6 gasoline engine with a high-torque electric-drive motor-generator for a combined output of over 300 horsepower - equivalent to a 4.5-litre V8 according to Lexus.

Stuart Payne, director responsible for Lexus in Canada says "with the dramatic new look, and the chance to enjoy sporty power without sacrificing environmental responsibility, we believe this hybrid sedan will attract a very loyal and enthusiastic following."

More information will become available closer to the GS 450h's release date.
