Over in the Subaru booth, the totally redesigned 2009 Forester compact sport utility vehicle made its Canadian debut in Toronto.

Longer, wider and taller than the previous generation, the Forester is now more S-ute than it is wagon. Starting with the base 2.5X model, which makes 170 hp/170 lb.-ft. from its naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre Subaru Boxer engine, the 2009 Forester benefits from enhanced safety technologies, a smarter, larger interior and all-wheel-drive confidence. The 2.5XT model offers even more power with its turbocharged engine to the tune of 225 hp and 226 lb.-ft of torque.

All 2009 Foresters now feature standard side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, and Subaru's advanced Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system as standard equipment.

Other highlights of the Subaru stand included the all-new 2009 Impreza WRX STI - bound to be a show favourite - and the new Legacy P-ZEV that's due in dealerships in late April.
