Visually, the Cadillac Vizón looks like a futuristic station wagon, but GM says it was designed to fill the gap between sport wagons and sport utility vehicles.

"It's an alternative to a sport utility vehicle with a more car-like driving experience," said Tom Kearns, brand character chief designer for Cadillac.

The Vizón's interior has room for four passengers, with leather seating integrated heated and cooling. Cadillac has also included entertainment systems such as a DVD player and built-in video screens.

The driver gets a reconfigurable display panel that allows for him or her to tailor information that appears on the instrument panel, and the centre console extends the length of the car's interior.

Power comes from a 4.2-litre V8 Northstar engine, and road handling is helped out by all-wheel drive, controlled by the StabiliTrak traction system. The suspension height can also be adjusted for different road and load conditions, and the transmission is a five-speed automatic.

The Vizón also has an electronically operated liftgate that rises to expose a fairly large rear storage area, and the load floor in the rear also lifts to form a shelf. There's also a power sunroof that opens two ways, as the front portion of the panel angles upward for venting, while the larger rear panel retracts into the roof.
