As far as concepts go, the new Lincoln MK 9 coupe is pretty sweet, as the car points to a future direction in design for Lincoln vehicles.

"The Lincoln MK 9 displays a timeless elegance borne of the design's inherent simplicity and visual logic, while its overall exuberance is unmistakably American," said Lincoln Design Director Gerry McGovern. "During the next several years, Lincoln will build on the design direction evident in the MK 9 through new concept and production vehicles."

The MK 9's exterior has a chrome-accented upper shoulder line that runs the length of the vehicle, which Ford said has been applied with "absolute precision." Gloss black paint highlights the body surface. The face of the MK 9 uses an evolutionary version of a Lincoln grille, flanked by twin xenon headlamps, with turn signal indicators integrated into each lamp unit.

The MK 9's front fenders and hood are enhanced by functional air vents, and each fender is prominent and part of a ring frame that traces the sill and door opening to enhance structural integrity. There's also twin rectangular dual exhaust outlets, framed by the rear bumper fascia, which Ford says complement the horizontal emphasis of the red LED tail lamps.

Definitely still in the concept stages at this point, Ford did not release any details on the powertrain, as the MK 9 looks to be more of a design concept for future inspiration.

The interior is a combination of Dark Cherry Red and Marlboro Red leathers with accents of polished metal. The Dark Cherry saddle leather is used for the flooring, and white leather is used for the headliner. The symmetrical dashboard is on the simpler side, and the etched glass instruments are illuminated indirectly.

The MK9 utilises controls in a combination of digital and analogue interfaces, with navigation and telematics information being displayed on a reconfigurable screen in the centre console. The screen, among other gadgets, is operated by retractable controls that sit flush when not in use.
