Jaguar unveiled the concept R-Coupe at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The British automaker has created its concept to be a two-door, four-seat luxury coupe that will "explore" and demonstrate the company's new design philosophy.

Jaguar said that one of its design objectives was to match the balanced proportions of the company's earlier cars, and incorporate a powerful stance - with the R-Coupe's cabin tucking down between its wheels.

The interior sports "abundant" amounts of wood and leather, which Jaguar said are used in "novel ways" and help create a tactile interior. The uses lots of macassar wood veneer around the cabin, which is offset by fair quantities of naturally treated leather.

The automaker revealed some of the other luxury features nestled in the interior of the R-Coupe, including a full-length centre console; jewel-like instruments and switches; "Blonde" Connolly leather on seats and door trims; three-spoke leather and anodized aluminum sports steering wheel; F1-style gear change, with silver-plated paddles; chronograph-inspired instruments in individual, silver-plated binnacles; and a "Control management centre" with interactive LCD screen for access to climate control, telephone, navigation, TV, e-mail and Internet, among other features.

Jaguar has also included decadent exterior features on the R-Coupe, like the pewter paint-work, silver badges and silver plated grille.

It seems as though the company has pulled out all the stops to try and gauge public reaction to the vehicle, as they've also added 10-spoke alloy wheels, pencil-beam xenon headlights, an LED and halogen progressive brake light system and electronic door release system.

Jaguar didn't reveal everything about the R-Coupe, such as details about the powertrain, transmission and performance, but did add that the vehicle's length is 4,922 millimetres, height 1346-mm, width 1889-mm, and wheelbase is 2908-mm.
