No, Korean automaker Daewoo hasn't joined the dark side of the force, but with all apologies to George Lucas you couldn't blame people for thinking that after the company debuted its Vada SUV at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Seemingly inspired by stormtroopers from the Star Wars franchise, the small SUV gives off a rugged appearance, with large rounded bumpers, flared wheel arcs, large tires, and a stance that makes it look like its ready to pounce.

Daewoo wasn't too forward with the specifications of the Vada, but it looks like the vehicle is built for a fair amount of off-roading, as opposed to car-based SUVs that shouldn't hit any trails tougher than a cycling path.

The automaker did produce some details for the SUV, mentioning that its exterior belies its interior roominess, with space to store items for transport, such as groceries and bulkier items, and a wet-locker compartment that sits in the rear tailgate, which Daewoo says can be used to stow wet and muddy clothing.

The interior seats four, but the seats are on sliding rails for easier movement so passengers can place the seats for optimized comfort.

Still a concept, it appears that Daewoo has yet to suss everything out on the Vada, but has included lots of interior pockets, like storage cubbyholes, three removable displays, door pockets, and detachable storage sacks located behind the front seats.

As if you needed more space, all seats, except the driver’s, can either fold down or be removed altogether and stored in the rear tailgate compartment, which leaves room for mountain bikes, surf boards and other equipment used in outdoor pursuits.

Outside of air conditioning, Daewoo did not mention any other electronics or amenities included in the concept.

As of publication time, it is uncertain as to how close a reality the Vada is to becoming a production vehicle, and most likely Daewoo will be using the Frankfurt Motor Show, as well as other automotive showcases, to gauge consumer reaction toward the vehicle.
