The RPM 7000 demonstrates the "potential use for a sports coupe," said Janis Little, a product and brand communication manager at Mitsubishi. She said what really sets this vehicle apart from other concepts is its race-inspired design.

The front of the car emulates a Formula One car, and the switches and instrument pod cluster are rally-car inspired. The RPM 7000 is powered by a 2.0 litre inline-four DOHC engine, which produces 315 hp and 274 lbs.-ft torque at 3000 rpm.

The engine is mated to a close-ratio, five-speed manual transmission, and ventilated front and rear disc brakes (four and eight pistons) ensure that you're not driving like Jacques Villeneuve all the time. Add some 19-inch Goodyear Formula One rain tires and the RPM is ready to hit the road.

From the SUV side of the family, the RPM 7000 inherited a flexible cargo area with fold-down rear seats--not a usual feature in a sports coupe.

Will the RPM 7000 roll toward production? "It's a concept study at this time," Little said. Who knows...maybe one day it will "cross over" from concept to reality.
