At the 2003 Edmonton International Auto Show, DaimlerChrysler Canada introduced a concept truck it said "may well become the most powerful production light duty pickup in the world."

Some 10 months later, it takes its place in the Dodge truck lineup alongside performance favourites like the Viper (from which it borrows a 500 horsepower V10 engine), and the Dodge SRT-4 compact sedan. The engine also makes 525 lbs.ft. of torque, to power the pickup to a top speed of 240 km/h and a 0 - 100 km/h time of about five seconds.

"The Dodge Ram SRT-10 may be the first halo truck, but trust me, this truck is no angel," said Wolfgang Bernhard, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Group. "The Ram SRT-10 is true to the performance ideals that created the original Dodge Viper: keep it simple, and make it fast."

"There is no replacement for displacement," added Bernhard. "The Ram SRT-10 delivers its astounding performance in a way that only Viper owners will recognize, with an endless rush of torque."

Under the SRT-10's hood lies the same 8.3-liter V10 engine that powers the all-new 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 roadster. The concept truck also boasted a 500-watt sound system.

"If the Dodge Viper was ever re-born as a pickup truck then this would be it," said John MacDonald, Dodge Brand Manager, DaimlerChrysler Canada, at its public unveiling during the 2003 Edmonton International Auto Show. "It has the heart of the Dodge Viper, but it’s wrapped in a truck that we felt was appropriate to introduce here in Edmonton, Alberta - the heart of truck country."
