Peugeot offers cure for boredom with 407 Elixir concept

Ever wish you could just drink a magic potion and see into the future? Peugeot's newest creation may serve to do just that.

While one doesn't exactly drink the 407 Elixir, the concept car gives us a peek at what's lies ahead for the French automaker. It was unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The 407 Elixir's styling is both "dynamic and elegant," according to a statement released by the automaker, with long front end proportions. The body's design combines a "very steeply inclined" windscreen with a glass roof, a feature the automaker says it synonymous with the Peugeot brand. At the front, a wide "mouth" is surrounded by chrome-plated beading and integrated headlamps.

At the back, LED-type rear lights and an opening rear window are accommodated in a relatively upright tailgate.

The 407 Elixir is designed to seat four people comfortably. The doors open to reveal an interior, with no partition or rear parcel shelf, which houses four identical, adjustable seats, dual zone automatic air conditioning and satellite navigation displayed on a 7", 16/9 colour screen.

The passenger compartment features light, high quality leather among its materials. Aluminium inserts run the length of the interior as far as each end of the fascia panel.

The 407 Elixir has pre-tensioning seatbelts with a "seatbelt-not-fastened" indicator for each of the four seats. Passengers are protected by nine airbags, one of which (incorporated in the steering column) protects the driver's knees.

Power for the 407 Elixir is provided by an all-new, 6-cylinder 2,700cc HDi DT17 diesel engine, which produces more than 200 horsepower and 440 Nm torque. This engine features the latest-generation particulate emission filter, which ensures automatic regeneration without any mileage limitations.

The transmission is a sequential gearbox, with a gear lever allowing either 100 % automatic operation or manual gear changes.

Elixir has dual wishbone suspension at the front and the latest generation multi-arm system at the rear, combined with a new Electronic Stability Programme (ESP).

This state-of-the-art suspension technology offers high-quality road holding and "unrivalled" comfort, ensuring "genuine driving pleasure", a true Peugeot trademark, according to the automaker.
