The Jeep Gladiator concept made its first appearance at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Quite unlike the pickup of the same name that was released in 1962, the new Gladiator features an open-air canvas roof, removable doors and fold-down windshield.

The Gladiator has all the makings of an outdoor, offroad vehicle, with part-time 4X4 capabilities, an expandable truckbed (stretching from 5 feet, 8 inches to 6 feet, 8 inches), a front winch, full skid plates and an interior designed for hose-out ease of care.

Power comes in the form of a 4-cylinder, 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 163-horsepower. It delivers power through a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Coilover shocks are used at all four corners for excellent control, combined with 18" wheels. The Gladiator sits 13.7 inches off the ground.

Inside you'll find a lot of green with dark grey accents. The Gladiator includes a GPS navigation system.

"This vehicle blends classic cues with contemporary functionality and innovation," said Creed. "The timeless silhouette - even the bedside-mounted spare of classic Jeep pickups - is merged with a modern chassis, a turbo diesel powertrain and a flexible, expandable truck bed."
