Hyundai's newest concept is a 6-seater known as the Portico. This newest concept illustrates yet another segment Hyundai is aiming at - the family transportation vehicle.

Hyundai says that though the Portico is neither a sedan nor an SUV, it fits the needs of both of those types of people. It has a car-like ride with a versatile and 'family-friendly' interior according to the company.

The Portico's design is made to allow easy access in and out of the vehicle. It also makes for more legroom for all six passengers, including those in the third row. The outward-opening rear doors, coupled with the lack of a middle pillar, make for a very open area to step in out of.

Though the Portico is set up for three rows with two seats each, this configuration can be staggered to allow for two rows with three seats. This allows for more cargo space in the rear of the vehicle.

The Portico houses a Lambda DOHC V6 engine that is mated to a 6-speed shiftronic automatic transmission. This transmission will be available soon on other Hyundai production vehicles. Hinting that it could be a future hybrid vehicle, the Portico can also house Hyundai's gas-electric drive system.

The concept also features power-operated front and rear seats, a DVD-based entertainment centre for rear passengers and 18-inch tires. In addition, it includes a panoramic roof with glass that can be darkened or lightened to control how much sunlight gets through.
