Chrysler is introducing the Firepower grand tourer concept car at autoshows throughout the world in 2005 and some are touting it as direct competition for the Chevrolet Corvette. It's a supercar with a Dodge Viper-based chassis, a V8 Hemi-powered engine, and 0-100 km/h time of less than 4.5 seconds.

The Firepower was made to combine performance, elegance and design according to Chrysler. The interior includes leather-covered seats, automatic climate control and a premium audio system as well as touch surfaces that are finished in fine materials for a luxury feel. In addition, the instrument panel features precisely-detailed gauges to complete the look of elegance.

The rear-wheel drive Firepower sits on 19-inch aluminum wheels and tires up front and 20-inch rear wheels and tires. It has a total weight of 3,380 lbs. and its ground clearance comes in at 5.1 inches.

The engine is SRT (Street and Racing Technology)-based and has an estimated top speed of 282 km/h powered by a 6.1-litre engine. It's mated to a five-speed automatic tranmission.

Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President - Chrysler Group Design had this to say about the Firepower: "As designers, we challenged ourselves - how could we best encompass such strong Chrysler models as the Crossfire, which began the brand's move toward a higher level of performance and elegance, while looking to the most extreme expression of engineering and design such as last year's prototype, the ME Four-Twelve? Chrysler Chrysler Firepower uniquely bridges these two worlds."
