Volkswagen unveiled a new concept to the world with the Concept A and it looks to be a true crossover vehicle - with the looks of a sports car with the design and functionality of an SUV.

The Concept A carries the same face of the new Volkswagen lineup. It has a long hood reminiscent of roadsters, with a rear hatchback that opens in two ways. The bottom portion swings out like a pickup tailgate, while the upper portion swings upward like an SUV. To help with the sports car feel to it, an optional soft top can be swung all the way back to the C-pillar.

Other highlights of the exterior include 20 inch wheels with spokes that lie on top of each other for a futuristic 3D look. According to Volkswagen, the front itself is meant to resemble a cheetah, with slightly slanted LED headlights that resemble cats eyes. The vehicle has an athletic stance and an aggressive front end. In the rear sit two round chrome tailpipes.

'On a good day, the folding roof turns the Concept A into a convertible' says Volkswagen about the Concept A. The company says it was trying to make for a light, airy feel when designing the concept. The interior features a very minimal amount of equipment to clutter up the inside. The climate vents were intentionally used as a dominant design element. The large grids used for the vents carry over things like the multimedia interface.

The 1.4-litre engine produces 150-horsepower and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Concept A has 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 2,602 mm wheelbase.
