Audi is pushing the envelope in the crossover vehicle market with the Cross Coupé quattro concept that combines the design and dynamism of a compact premium sports car with the spaciousness and versatility of a 4-seat sport utility vehicle (SUV).

The look is typical Audi, painted in the brand's historic Liquid Silver, and highly reminiscent of the sporty models produced in Ingolstadt. The interior can be opened up thanks to an electrically controlled fabric full roof. At night, ample ambient interior lighting is provided from several sources.

The vehicle's muscularity and large 20-inch wheels point towards the offroad potential (and superior ground clearance) of the Cross Coupé quattro. The quattro permanent 4-wheel drive system is a matter of course for any Audi with offroad potential, with a Haldex clutch ensures traction goes where it's needed.

The suspension setup featuring a McPherson-strut front axle and a 4-link rear axle provides sporty and agile handling, while retaining a high degree of stability. Ceramic brake discs deliver excellent, non-fading deceleration under all conditions.

Power is supplied by a 2.0-litre turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine with common-rail fuel injection and Bluetec system. Outputs are pegged at 204 hp and 295 lbs.ft of torque, yet fuel-economy is rated at 5.9 litres per 100 km, combined. Power is delivered to all wheels by the sporty Audi S tronic dual-clutch gearbox

Audi's drive select system offers three individual configurations (dynamic, sport and efficiency) for the engine, gearbox, steering and adaptive shock absorbers, resulting in a car that can be enjoyed in three completely different ways.

The "efficiency" driving program supports a particularly economical driving style by deactivating components that are particularly energy-hungry (such as the air-conditioning compressor, for example).

Another innovation is the information control panel operated by a touch pad. The monitor for the system features dual-view technology that can produce different images for the driver and front-seat passenger. These images are only visible when viewed from a specific angle. This allows the driver to read data from the on-board computer while the front passenger watches a movie, listening to the sound through headphones.
