Mitsubishi doesn't hide the fact that the automaker's aggressive-looking Prototype-S concept is based on its Lancer sedan.

Canada already has a Lancer with a wagon bodystyle (the Lancer Sportback), but the Prototype-S, with its sportier look, could be a hint that more markets may be ready for the wagon version.

The Prototype-S is instantly recognizable thanks to its inverted-slant nose with trapezoidal grille front fascia, which is a face that can be found on the new Mitsubishi vehicles across the lineup. Otherwise, the concept has a wide and low profile and uses exterior lines to help hint at its sportiness.

The vehicle rides on 19-inch tires and it uses 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels.

When it's time to stop looking and start driving, the Prototype-S gets moving with the help of a new 2.0-liter MIVEC 1.4-cylinder DOHC intercooled / turbocharged engine. This is the same engine that will power the new Lancer Ralliart in 2008. The engine is mated to a twin clutch SST2 automated manual transmission, and the vehicle uses 4WD with Active Center Differential (ACD).

Prototype-S specifications:

  • Length (mm): 4,585
  • Width (mm): 1,760
  • Height (mm): 1,480
  • Wheelbase (mm); 2,635
  • F/R track (mm); 1,530/1,530

  • Driveline; Full-time 4WD (with ACD)

  • Tires; 215/45R19
