Subaru acts a tease

Detroit - Subaru's presentation mainly consisted of effusive reports of growing sales figures and praise of their dealership networks- including the philanthropic "Share the Love" program which has donated over $10 million to various charities over the years.

On the dais, the previously revealed Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept received brief mention. A showcase for Subaru to promote their 2012 gas/electric hybrid system based on the boxer engine, the Hybrid Tourer features a 2.0 litre turbo powered gas engine mated to a lithium electric motor in front, and another at the rear.

The gasoline engine is used primarily for normal driving, with the rear motor kicking in under acceleration. The front motor acts as a power generator, returning power to the front axle, and also assisting in uphill acceleration. The system incorporates Subaru's Symmetrical AWD.

Other than that, we were treated to some all-too-brief footage of rally star Travis Pastrana's world record 269 foot leap in a Subaru Impreza. If only they'd had him repeat that here.
