Nissan Infiniti hooked on hybrids

It’s hybrid news for Nissan and Infiniti, with two Canadian debuts. Infiniti shows off the 2012 Infiniti M35h, powered by a 3.5-litre V6 coupled to a 50 kW electric motor. Up to speeds of 100 km/h, the car can go on electric power alone. It features an all-new Direct Response Hybrid system, a one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid enabled by a Lithium-ion battery. A seven-speed automatic transmission, hybrid electric power steering and electric driven intelligent brake regenerative braking system are also on board. It’s the first hybrid to provide a standard pedestrian-alert, the Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (VSP) system, which works from start-up to about 32 km/h, and cutting back in when the vehicle gets back down to 24 km/h.

More about the 2011 Canadian International Auto Show

Nissan brought along the Ellure concept, which the company says is “an expression of Nissan’s long-term vision for the next generation of Nissan sedans.” It combines a traditional mid-size sedan layout with compact hybrid powertrain, a supercharged 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine and a 25 kW electric motor mated to an Xtronic CVT and front-wheel-drive.
