The latest generation of A6 combines Audi's sure-footed driving dynamics with the sophisticated technology and exceptional comfort and equipment levels expected in the luxury segment.

Powerful engines, advanced transmissions, and Audi's famous quattro all-wheel drivetrain set the foundation of the new-generation sports sedan. From there, there's a cutting-edge suspension and high body-rigidity that open up a new dimension in driving dynamics.

The new A6 combines core Audi styling cues, like low-slung windows and coupe-like roofline, with a sleek shoulder line and a muscular hood, shoulders and haunches. The centrepiece of the design is the new trapezoidal grille that will stretch across the lineup by the time all Audis are redesigned.

An optional dynamic adaptive light technology incorporates powerful bi-xenon lights that follow the course of the road as a function of steering angle and road speed, allowing the driver to see upcoming bends more clearly and precisely and detect possible dangers earlier.

Equally dramatic, the new interior features a new centre console with controls and instruments within easy reach of the driver, new sport 4-spoke steering wheel with a trapezoidal centerpiece with the four Audi rings (to echo the new radiator grille), and a control terminal behind the gearshift lever for things like radio presets, trip computer and navigation system.

All the car's occupants benefit from a higher standard of comfort and spaciousness primarily due to a 3-inch increase in wheelbase (translating directly into more front seat legroom and increased rear knee room).

Initially, a choice of engines will be offered: a 335-hp 4.2-litre V8 or a 255-hp 3.2 V6. Both feature variable intake manifolds for better torque at low rpm and continuous inlet camshaft control. A direct injection system sprays fuel right into the combustion chamber and concentrates more fuel in the area around the spark plug, while keeping a leaner mixture to the perimeter of the chamber for better economy and reduced heat loss.

Both engines are teamed with 6-speed automatic transmissions, featuring sequential gear selection (further upgraded with optional gearshift paddles). Audi's famous quattro permanent all-wheel drive comes standard with the 4.2 V8 and optional with the 3.2 V6.

In addition to improvements in powertrain and drivetrain, Audi also improved the A6's torsional stiffness by more than 34 percent, providing significant advantages in terms of driving dynamics, ride comfort and cabin insulation.

Handling is entrusted to a 4-link front suspension and a self-tracking trapezoidal-link setup in the rear, and sensitive and precise speed-variable steering.

A premium level of equipment includes aluminum wheels, conditions-sensing lights and wipers, aluminum or wood interior trim, 7-inch colour display for the central control terminal, premium sound system, and automatic climate control. An optional transponder keyfob sends out a signal as the driver approaches the vehicle, unlocking the doors as one of the handles is pulled and also starting the engine at the push of a button

On the safety front, the new A6 features the latest generation of stability control (ESP), anti-lock braking with brake assist and Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD), 3-point belts all around, dual front airbags, active front head restraints for whiplash protection, side-impact airbags front and rear, and full side air-curtain. A tire-pressure monitoring system is optional.
