Porsche has officially announced that a fourth vehicle will be added to its lineup for the 2009 model year. The newest coupe from the German automaker will be named the Panamera.

The new car, whose name is derived from the Carrera Pan-americana long-distance race, will be built in Leipzig, Germany alongside the Cayenne and Carrera GT. The engine will be built at Porsche's Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant. The company expects to produce 20,000 Panameras a year.

The Panamera will be built on an entirely new platform and according to Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, the President and CEO of Porsche AG, it "has all the typical DNA characteristics of a genuine sports car. In terms of performance, design, and driving dynamics, it meets Porsche's high standards in every respect."

Expect more news in the coming months.
