The all-new 2007 Jeep Compass is a modern-styled Jeep vehicle that delivers fun, freedom, utility and Jeep 4x4 capability, while providing exceptional fuel economy, a long list of safety features and interior flexibility.

Based on the Jeep Compass concept first introduced at the 2005 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, the 2007 Compass is the Jeep brand's first front-wheel-drive-based product. It also comes with four-wheel drivetrain.

Jeep says Compass is targeted at single or recently married educated professionals in their early 20s to early 40s, who are independent and family-oriented. These buyers skew female and earn a median income of $60,000. Fifty percent are college educated. Upscale, fashionable and refined items fit their lifestyle. They want a sophisticated and modern vehicle that allows them to break from the routine.

Compass features Jeep's signature 7-slot grille, round headlamps and trapezoidal wheel openings. However, there are also several modern design twists that distinguish it from traditionally styled Jeeps. A steeply raked windshield, expressive hood and deep fascia give the Jeep Compass its modern, yet capable appearance. The Jeep Compass' side profile features uniquely sculptured fender forms delivering a fresh, athletic interpretation of traditional Jeep trapezoidal wheel flares. Standard 17-inch aluminum wheels and available 18-inch aluminum or chrome-clad wheels explore Compass' dual nature: off-road capable and on-road sophistication.

Compass' flexible interior gives buyers the capability to do more in terms of seating people and storing stuff. Command-of-the road seating gives the driver a feeling of control, while cargo are can be increased several ways with available flat-folding rear seats and front passenger's seat.

Interior features of note include standard side-curtain air bags, premium sound system with two articulating speakers in the liftgate that swing down to face rearward to direct sound outward, dual purpose, self-recharging removable interior lamp in the headliner above the cargo area that can snap out to serve as a flashlight, sliding center armrest with a unique flip pocket for storing a cell phone or MP3 player, vinyl load floor in the rear cargo and easy-care, soil-repellent and anti-microbial textile seat fabric to protect against stains, odours and discoloration

Compass features a standard 172-horsepower 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine with dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on both intake and exhaust camshafts, which helps deliver more power, better fuel economy and smoother, quieter operation.

Jeep Compass also features a standard 5-speed manual and the availability of the second generation of Chrysler's Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT2). CVT2 can also be fitted with AutoStick, which allows sequential shift control with the simulation of six stepped gears.

Compass' available active, full-time 4x4 system is recommended for everyday use. The 4-wheel-drive "Lock" mode is available for driving on low-traction surfaces. In either mode, standard safety features include Brake Traction Control, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Brake Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation and 4-wheel anti-lock brakes.

And true to the Jeep off-road tradition, Compass features eight inches of ground clearance, 21.1-degree approach angle, 32-degree departure angle and 21-degree breakover angle.
