The sixth-generation 911 Turbo hits Porsche North America showrooms in the summer of 2006 and there's a whole lot of power added this year.

The Turbo gets a horsepower boost of 60 over its predecessor, topping out at 480-horsepower. Peak torque also gets a big boost, going from 415 lbs.-ft. in 2006 to 457 lbs.-ft. in 2007. In addition, the engine's torque curve spans from 1,950 to 5,000 rpm. For those who want that extra bit of speed, there's an optional sport chrono package which allows a 10-second, mid-rpm-range 'overboost,' giving the 911 Turbo an increase to 502 lbs.-ft. of torque.

The engine is mated to either a standard 6-speed manual or a 5-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. The manual can go from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, while the automatic does the same in only 3.4 seconds. With either transmission, it has a top speed of 193 mph.

The 2007 911 Turbo also features a redesigned all-wheel drive system, with an electronically controlled multi- disc clutch replacing the previous model's viscous clutch. The vehicle includes Porsche Traction Management and Porsche composite brakes. The brake system is comprised of six-piston monobloc calipers up front, and four- piston monobloc calipers at the rear.

Styling-wise, the new 911 Turbo has a front end that includes cooling air intakes and widely spaced, deeply set fog lights. The rear has a tail that is wider than that of the previous model. The redesigned wing slopes downward at each end.

The 2007 911 Turbo will cost $122,900 US.
