Porsche has announced that its new 911 Turbo will carry a suggested retail price of $170,700 in Canada.

Featuring the first application of Porsche's variable turbine geometry (VTG) to a gasoline engine (the technology has been widely applied to diesels since the early 1990s), the sixth-generation 911 Turbo model features a big increase in power from the 3.6-litre boxer six. It produces 480-horsepower (compared to 420-horsepower in the previous generation) and 457 lbs.ft. of torque that spans a wider RPM range (from 1,950 to 5,000 rpm). The previous model produced 415 lbs.ft. between 2,700 and 4,600 rpm.

The 2007 911 Turbo continues to feature all-wheel drive, but the system has been redesigned to include a multi-disc clutch in place of the previous generation's viscous clutch. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) varies power distribution fore and aft, with the system's electronics constantly adapting to surface conditions to ensure ideal traction. As a side benefit, the PTM setup is one of the lightest AWD systems on the market.

A 911 Turbo equipped with the optional 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds (slightly faster than the 3.9 it would take the car when equipped with the standard 6-speed manual). The top track speed of the new 911 Turbo is 310 km/h.
