The Porsche Cayman S made itself just a little more accessible, thanks to the newly-announced base Cayman, which will have a price of $69,600 in Canada.

The 2007 Cayman will launch in the summer of 2006 and though it has the same styling and mid-engine design as the Cayman S, the Cayman's engine will be a 2.7-litre six-cylinder Boxer that produces 245-horsepower. It will be mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission, though a six-speed manual and five-speed tiptronic will both be optional. The automatic will include steering wheel paddle shifters.

The Cayman will produce a maximum 201 lbs.-ft. of torque between 4,600 and 6,000 rpm and will reach 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. It has a top test track speed of 258 km/h according to Porsche.

Drivers who opt for the six-speed manual will also be driving a Cayman with Porsche's Active Active Suspension Management, which allows the driver to choose between two suspension settings ('normal' and 'sport') by simply touching a button on the centre console.

The Cayman rides on 17-inch double-spoke wheels and 17-inch tires and comes standard with Porsche Stability Management, air conditioning and CD player. Also included in the base price are six airbags - the driver and passenger each get a front airbag and chest and head airbags.
