With each passing year comes more power for most Porsche models, and the new series of Boxster roadsters are no exception. Both the base model and the Boxster S get a boost in power for 2007, with the latter getting a larger engine for a greater increase in horsepower and torque.

The Boxster S engine grows from 3.2-litres to 3.4-litres and now develops 295-horsepower at 6,250 rpm, and 251 lb.-ft of torque (that's an increase of 15-horsepower and 15 lbs.-ft. of torque, respectively). The base Boxster engine is the same 2.7-litre V6, but gets an increase of 5-horsepower (to 245) and torque (201 lb.-ft., compared to 199 last year).

The engines in both versions of the Boxster are now also equipped with Porsche VarioCam Plus, which provides both variable intake valve timing and lift control. This system means that the Boxster and Boxster S engines have 'characteristically strong pulling power, combined with high peak-output and impressive fuel efficiency,' according to Porsche.

Both roadsters can be fitted with an optional tiptronic automatic transmission that has been revised for 2007. It has improved hydraulics and electronics to better responsiveness, and an optional Sport Chrono package can also be added to enhance the sporty characteristics of the vehicles. When the Sport Chrono package is activated, downshifts and upshifts are only made at engine speeds above 3,000 rpm. Also, in manual shift mode, upshifts are not automatically made when the engine reaches the red line.

Other changes include a tire pressure monitoring system that comes standard on all 2007 Boxsters. In addition, the coolant and engine-oil filler caps are now located behind an easily accessible flap, so that better use can be made of the rear trunk. For the first time, the 19-inch, forged alloy, two-tone wheels that were developed for the 911 Turbo will be available on the Boxster.

The 2007 Boxster will cost $63,600 CDN, while the Boxster S will be $77,300 CDN. Both models will be available in August 2006.
