For the sports car enthusiast, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a special edition SLR, in case the 'base' model isn't enough.

The company has announced the Mercedes-Benz SLR '722 Edition', which pays homage to the victory won by the British racing legend Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7.22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.

The 722 houses a 5.5-litre V8 engine that produces 650-horsepower and an 'unmistakable V8 sound.' It has a top speed of 337 km/h, which bests the 334 km/h previously achieved by the SLR. The 722 Edition has a 0-100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds and goes from 0-200 km/h in 10.2 seconds.

Handling is racetrack-worthy thanks to a specially tuned suspension, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, a stiffer damper configuration and a 10 mm lower body. To stop all of this power, the coupe includes larger disc brakes. The modified front spoiler with an air splitter, as well as the rear diffuser, improve both the aerodynamics and contact pressure at high speeds, and reflect the transfer of cutting-edge technology from motor racing.

The interior features bucket-type sports seats covered in leather, a 'grippier racing steering wheel' along with steering wheel paddles and black carbon highlights.
