'S' marks the spot for Lincoln.

Ford has announced that the MKS (or Mark S) concept vehicle that was shown at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit will in fact become Lincoln's flagship vehicle when it reaches production status for the 2008 model year.

Spokesmen at Lincoln say that the MKS will have plenty of new technology, making it worthy of being called a flagship. One of these new technologies is the capless fuel filler cap - an idea that was taken from the Ford GT supercar. The capless fuel filler helps avoid the inconvenience of forgetting to put the cap back on after fuelling. It's also better for the environment since no gas fumes escape.

"The Lincoln MKS will take Lincoln craftsmanship and comfort beyond anything we've built before," Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas said. "Its design communicates power, motion and speed, and it will be packed with more technology and features than any Lincoln before it."

The MKS concept had a 315-horsepower, 4.4-litre V8 engine, panoramic glass sunroof, 8-inch LCD touch screen on the instrument panel and all-wheel drive. No word yet on if any of this equipment or these features will be included on the production version.
