Volkswagen has announced new entry-level versions for two of its most popular models - the Golf and Jetta.

Both the City Golf and the City Jetta will come standard with 15 inch wheels, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, MP3-readable CD player, height adjustable and telescopic steering wheel, variable intermittent front wipers, height adjustable driver seat and 60/40 split folding rear seat. The City Jetta adds standard power door locks with remote locking, an anti-theft alarm system, chrome exterior appliques, aluminium-look instrument surrounding, and front floor mats.

The City Golf has a base manufacturer's retail price of $14,900 while the City Jetta will have a base MSRP of $16,700. Both will have a standard 5-speed manual transmission, though a 4-speed automatic will be available. They each get the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine, which produces 115 horsepower and 122 lb/ft of torque at 2,600 rpm.

The list of optional equipment includes side airbags, side curtain protection, and air conditioning. A cold weather package includes heated front seats and washer nozzles while a convenience package comes with items such as power windows, mirrors, and cruise control. Finally, a luxury package gives the owner a power sunroof and 15" alloy wheels.'
