Volvo's XC90 SUV added a larger engine last year, getting a bigger, more capable V8. Now, the company is increasing the vehicle's wild side with the XC90 Sport edition.

According to Volvo, customers wanted more driving pleasure from the company that is most known for its safety. Besides aesthetic changes (more on that later), the XC90 Sport uses stiffer shock absorbers and anti-roll bars to allow for improved handling around corners. The speed-sensitive steering has also been adapted for quicker steering response according to Volvo.

Volvo's 'Nivomat' self-levelling system is standard on this model.

The XC90 Sport comes only as a seven-seater and features double chromed exhaust pipes and larger 19" alloy sport wheels. Details and trim will have a matte silver finish rather than the standard chrome, and the lower skid plate and roof rails are also matte silver. The sill moldings are in brushed stainless steel.

The V8 engine is the same one that appeared in the 2006 Volvo XC90 V8 model. It's transversely mounted for improved safety and interior space and produces 311-horsepower.

One option package will be available on the XC90 Sport. The Technology Package offers active bi-xenon headlamps, Dynaudio sound system, and Sirius satellite radio.
