The first shipment of all-new Mazda CX-9 crossover sport utility vehicles (SUV) made its way to North America, departing the Port of Hiroshima en route to the Port of Tacoma (Washington) and then on to the Port of National City (California), arriving just prior to 2007.

Designed and engineered specifically for North America, the all-new CX-9 is Mazda's new entry into the rapidly growing 3-row, 7-passenger crossover SUV segment.

The all-new CX-9 provides unique Mazda design and energetic performance as well as up-market interior with class-leading space and unmatched versatility. All CX-9s will be powered by an aluminum 263-hp 3.5-litre V6 matched to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission and available in either front- or all-wheel drive. Exterior standards include halogen headlamps and 18-inch wheels.

All CX-9s include 3-zone climate control, power windows, mirrors and door locks with remote keyless entry and cruise control. Also standard on all vehicles are a wide range of safety features, including Roll Stability Control (RSC), Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), traction control (TCS) and side-curtain airbags for all three rows of seating.

Options include 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, keyless entry with transponder, leather seat trim, power front-seat adjusters, memory driver's seat positioning and Bluetooth hands-free capability (a Mazda first).
