The new Cayenne is being released this year and to the surprise of absolutely no one, the feature Porsche is touting the most in its newest SUV is the power under the hood.

The new Cayenne enters its second generation with a new face and an engine that produces up to 500-horsepower (Turbo model). The non-Turbo base model has a 3.6-litre engine that produces 290 horsepower and 283 lbs.-ft. of torque, while the larger, non-turbo 4.8-litre V8 produces 385 horsepower and 369 lbs.-ft. of torque. All three engines use direct fuel injection, which help improve fuel economy. In addition, drivers have the choice of either a six speed manual transmission or six speed tiptronic.

The exterior includes a new headlight design, as they're pushed further to the sides and covered by clear glass. The sculpting of the wheel openings and front fascia have also been changed and exterior mirrors have been redesigned. Even the roof spoiler has been tweaked to help increase the vehicle's aerodynamics.

Other new features on the 2008 Cayenne are Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control with active anti-roll bars, dynamic curve lights and Trailer Stability Control. For the first time, the Cayenne comes with a rollover sensor which is able to trigger both the belt latch tensioners and curtain airbags in an emergency, thus helping to reduce the risk of injury for all occupants in a rollover. This is used in conjunction with the Cayenne's six standard airbags.

Also new is a standard and push-button Sport mode, a rail-mounted cargo management system and XM satellite radio. When activated, the Sport mode causes the engine to react even more spontaneously.
