The Dodge Viper has never really done things half-heartedly and the 2008 SRT10 edition is no different. It doesn't just get a little boost in power and a few small visual changes. Its new 8.4-litre V10 engine increases horsepower by 90 for a total of 600-horsepower (along with 560 lbs.-ft. of torque).

In addition, the Viper SRT10 comes in both coupe and roadster bodystyles, both of which now have much larger hood scoops and and larger, functional hood louvers to help keep the engine cooler. Five new exterior colours are also available, as are four new interior colours. Dodge says that the only body panels the coupe and roadster share are the front fascia and fenders, hood and doors.

The engine displacement has been increased from 8.3-litres and the cylinder heads are equipped with variable valve timing, allowing the engine to “breathe” cleaner and more efficiently. A larger oil pump and a swinging oil pickup improve oil pressure in high-rpm and hard-cornering conditions.

More upgrades were made to this Viper to handle the increased power and handling abilities. This includes a new, smaller-diameter, twin-disc clutch (the previous model used a larger-diameter, single-disc setup), resulting in reduced clutch-pedal effort and improved engagement feel according to Dodge.

The '08 Viper SRT10 uses a fully independent, four-wheel suspension featuring lightweight, high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, damped by lightweight coil-over shock absorbers and a speed-sensing limited-slip differential.

The newest Viper rides on 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels that will be available in three styles - the five-spoke, the H-spoke and the new 'Razor' wheel.

In case you want to take one of your children out for a drive in the 2008 Viper SRT10, several safety features are included standard, such as adjustable pedals, advanced front air bags, anti-lock braking system and crumple zones that will absorb energy in the event of a collision.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 will be hand-built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.
