Honda created a new Element sport-utility vehicle for 2007 and equipped it with additional features including a sport-tuned suspension with lowered ride height, 18-inch wheels, exclusive exterior "street custom" styling and an exclusive interior.

"The Element SC is designed to portray an urban-oriented, style-conscious sibling of the original Element," said Jim Miller, executive vice president, Honda Canada Inc. "Element SC injects a new dimension of urban sophistication and refinement while retaining its core versatility."

In addition to the introduction of the SC, the entire Element model lineup undergoes a transformation for 2007 with freshened styling, 10 more horsepower, a new available 5-speed automatic transmission and extensive new standard safety equipment. Element also receives the addition of standard front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System, side curtain airbags and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA).

In addition to new safety equipment, Element features a more powerful 166-horsepower 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine, Drive-by-Wire throttle system, integrated front seat belts, Maintenance Minder system and tire pressure monitoring system, among others.

Designed with a sleeker style, the Element SC features a carpeted floor (black urethane utility floor is retained in the cargo area), a center console with storage, Piano Black trim pieces and exclusive fabric patterns.

The center console provides an additional hidden storage area and integrates the auxiliary audio input jack and two cupholders. Gauges on all Element SC models are illuminated in a copper-hue, replacing the blue backlit illumination on the other models. Root Beer Metallic and Nighthawk Black Pearl Element SCs feature exclusive copper-colour trim pieces. "Tattoo" print fabric is used on all Element SC seats and door liners.

A 270-watt high-output audio system in the SC features an AM/FM tuner, CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, auxiliary audio input for digital devices, steering wheel mounted audio controls, and seven speakers, including a 6.5-inch subwoofer in the bottom center of the instrument panel.

The composite body panels are body-coloured on the Element SC. The side cargo doors provide a large opening for easy loading. The rear tailgate drops down pickup style, creating a low load-in height as the rear window opens up to create a large canopy for protection from sun and rain.

The Element SC's exterior styling exhibits a sophisticated performance attitude with exclusive features that include projector beam halogen headlights, custom front and rear painted bumpers, large alloy wheels, custom grill, and a lowered stance (achieved by lowering the ride height and by using uniquely shaped painted side sills and slimmer roof mouldings).

Element uses an independent control link MacPherson strut front suspension and an independent compact double wishbone rear suspension for responsive handling and a comfortable ride. The Element SC is available only in front-wheel drive.

Element SC features 18-inch alloy wheels shod with 225/55R18 tires, firmer spring and damper tuning, a 28-mm lower ride height and larger rear stabilizer. Compared to the Element LX and EX models, the solid front stabilizer bar on Element SC is 25 percent stiffer and the rear stabilizer is 30 percent stiffer, again to improve handling.
