Buick is going old-school with some of its new models, something that's sure to please fans of the automaker's vehicles both young and old alike.

After 50 years, Buick is bringing the 'Super' name back to some of its models, with the Allure and Lucerne being the first to reap the benefits of not only a new name, but the new engine and luxury appointments that come with it as well.

The company says that the 'Super' ethic will include powertrain enhancements, enhanced driving dynamics with specifically tuned steering, braking and suspension systems and high levels of interior quietness.

The Allure especially takes a big step way up from its current 3.6-litre V6. The new 'Super' version gets a 5.3-litre V8, rated at 300-horsepower (up from the V6's 240-horsepower) and 323 lbs.-ft. of torque. It will also include GM's active fuel management system for improved fuel economy. With this, four of the eight cylinders shut off when they're not needed (for instance during cruising speeds).

The interior of the Allure Super gets unique woodgrain appearance accents on the instrument panel, center console, doors and gear shift knob. There are also exclusive instrument cluster graphics – including Super identification – new front sill plates, a silver finish on the instrument panel center stack and Super-specific floor mats.

The exterior gets a new hood and front fascia that incorporates a lower grille opening with chrome trim and chrome fog lamp bezels. It will be offered in four exterior colors: Black Onyx, Platinum Metallic, Dark Mocha Metallic and Red Jewel tint coat.

As with so many other performance-enhanced vehicles, the Allure Super gets a specially-tuned suspension. Bilstein monotube struts, larger front and rear rotors, StabiliTrak, and recalibrated chassis controls are added to give the Allure Super confident handling and road manners, while also maintaining overall ride comfort according to Buick.

One particular feature that remains the same in any Allure is the noise deadening engineering, which uses laminated side window glass, sound-deadening material in the body structure, hydraulic mounts in the engine compartment. Buick says even the exhaust notes have been tuned for overall sound quality.
