An exciting new Volkswagen Golf is ready to spin its way into showrooms after a 25 year absence.

The VW Golf GTI Pirelli was last sold in 1983 but will be making its return in 2007 shortly after the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The interior uses styling that is inspired by the tread pattern of the new Pirelli P Zero and of course the vehicle itself rides on Pirelli P-Zeros that are fitted on some of the world's fastest supercars. It also uses dedicated 18" 5P Pirelli light alloy wheels.

The direct injection turbocharged engine produces 230-horsepower and the little hatchback can reach speeds of 245 km/h. It moves from 0-100 km/h in only 6.8 seconds (6.6 seconds when using the version with the optional DSG transmission) and fuel consumption is rated at 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres (7.9 litre with the DSG).

The car will be available in four colours, with body-coloured bumpers.
