The fans spoke and Ford listened.

The company is releasing a convertible version of its Shelby GT model just as the warm weather reaches its peak in the summer of 2008. After hearing so many people ask about one (or is that demand one?) after the release of last year's coupe version, the company gave in and simply made it happen.

"The birth of the Ford Shelby GT was so well received last year, especially by young enthusiasts, that we brought the car back for the 2008 model year," said Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles. "The enormous response to the Shelby GT-H convertible convinced us to offer a drop top Shelby GT."

The convertible version features a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Package, giving the 4.6-liter V-8 engine a total of 319-horsepower and 330 lb.-ft. of torque. A high-flow exhaust system with X-pipe crossover offers better power delivery and a throaty V-8 exhaust note.

The Shelby GT convertible, which comes in an exclusive Vista Blue exterior with silver stripes, is similar to last year's coupe version of the Shelby GT in that it gets a unique front fascia with aggressive lower air dam and hood scoop that comes directly from the Shelby Cobra roadster. Unique side scoops are positioned just before the rear wheel arches and the rear fascia frames dual exhaust tips. To top it all off, a Shelby badge can be seen on the trunk lid.

Rounding out the interior will be 18-inch wheels with 18-inch high-performance tires.

The vehicle includes a Ford Racing Handling Pack with special-tuned dampers and unique sway bars. The overall ride height was dropped to reduce body roll while a front strut-tower brace adds additional strength to the chassis structure.

Each car will get an authentication plate on the center dashboard, as well as a matching tag under the hood for documentation in a forthcoming registry. Production is scheduled to begin in August 2007.
