It looks like Jeep decided to add a little nitro to its Liberty SUV.

The 2008 Liberty has been introduced and is all-new from the ground up. New features for 2008 include a MyGIG multimedia system, the new Sky Slider roof, and standard side curtain air bags, body color wheel flares and fascia, and aluminum wheels.

Both the 2WD and 4WD models come with a standard 3.7-litre V6 engine which produces 210 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. In addition, there are two 4WD models available.

Several new options are available on the 2008 Liberty including remote start, memory seats, mirrors and radio controls, and auto up/down windows.

In addition to the standard side curtain airbags, other safety equipment that the Liberty gets includes Electronic Stability Program, Electronic Roll Mitigation, all-speed traction control, brake assist, advanced anti-lock brakes and tire pressure monitoring. Optional safety equipment includes rain-sensing wipers and ParkSense Rear Park Assist System.

The new Sky Slider is a full-length, open-canvas roof that can be moved to several positions, including full forward, full rear, or any position in between. The roof itself is made of a reinforced-acrylic cloth, and it moves using a simple one-touch switch. It also uses anti-pitch software, which allows it to sense object that may be in the way of it. If an object is detected, it won't move.

The Liberty Sport comes with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment and Command-Trac four-wheel-drive system. It gets standard 16" wheels and tires, reversible cargo floor, fold-flat, reclining rear seats, and CD player.

The Liberty Limited, meanwhile, comes in either 4x2 or 4x4 models and includes features such as YES Essential seat fabric, fold-flat front passenger seat, power front driver seat, an Infinity premium audio system with eight speakers and subwoofer, four-speed automatic transmission, and 17" wheels and tires.

The Jeep Liberty is built in Chrysler's Toledo North Assembly plant in Ohio.
